573 – Mario Calire: Never Stop Learning

Mario Calire may have been destined to be a professional drummer. His father was a musician and when he landed a gig with the band America, the entire Calire family relocated to Los Angeles. Whether you want to call it right time, right place or a combination of both, Mario had an ideal situation to pursue a career in music. That said, there’s a big difference between having a great opportunity and letting it slip away versus having a great opportunity and working tirelessly to hone your craft so you can leverage that opportunity. Mario is the latter.

From his work with The Wallflowers and Ozomatli to a slew of freelance gigs and world tours, Mario is a prime example of what it means to be a well-rounded professional and his ability to adapt to any situation has kept him on the call list in one of the most demanding music cities in the world.

Mario Calire talks about:

  • Building a home studio and the moves he’s made toward focusing on remote recording
  • The things that drove him to want to shift his focus off touring
  • Growing up getting to go on the road with his dad and the band America
  • The advice and lessons he learned from his dad
  • How the multitude of resources online have changed things for young drummers
