419 – The characteristics of a great drummer

I had the opportunity to chat backstage with my buddy Shane Theriot at a recent Hall and Oates show. Shane is the guitar player and musical director for Hall and Oates and he has played with a slew of amazing drummers. The list includes (but is not limited to) Earl Palmer, Steve Jordan, Russel Baptiste, Zigaboo Modeliste, Johnny Vidacovich, Jim Keltner and many others. So I asked him what makes a great drummer and Shane’s unique perspective interested, me to say the least…I thought it’d be great topic to share with you, too. Comments welcome.
