527 – Glen Sobel: California dreaming and doing

Glen Sobel is a rare breed. He was born and bred in Los Angeles, which isn’t something you hear every day. Growing up in LA, Sobel knew at an early age that he wanted to be a professional drummer. But just living it LA wasn’t enough – far from it, in fact. What got Glen onto the drum riser with bands like Mötley Crüe, Hollywood Vampires (band), Richie Sambora, Orianthi, Beautiful Creatures, Chris Impellitteri, Gary Hoey, Tony MacAlpine, Jennifer Batten, Paul Gilbert, Saga, and Shark Island is his dedication to hard work, being a team player and saying yes to every opportunity he could. One of the better opportunities that he said yes to is his current gig with Alice Cooper, a position he’s held since 2011.

Glen Sobel talks about:

  • Being born and raised in LA
  • Pretending to play along with Rush with bamboo sticks
  • Getting involved at music at school
  • Prioritizing practicing the skills you really want to use
  • His experiences doing auditions and the advantage of having friends in the business
  • How to make connections in the modern music industry
  • Representing yourself well on social media
  • Winning and judging the GC Drum Off
  • Teaching private lessons and learning from the students
  • Much more
