593 – George Sluppick: It’s all in the Music

George Sluppick likes to keep it simple. As a man who’s made his career laying down 2 & 4 behind the kit, this simplicity is what keeps the phone ringing. But let’s not confuse simplicity for a lack of depth and knowledge.

Simplicity doesn’t mean stupidity.

Steve Jordan

George Sluppick is an encyclopedia of music knowledge that serves as the foundation for his groove, style, and overall creativity behind the kit. This creativity has landed him a resume of tours and studio sessions including Albert King, Charlie Hunter, The Chris Robinson Brotherhood, MoFro, and a long list of others. And while his gigs are always changing, one this stays the same – a simplicity that serves the music, the musicians, and the overall groove – devoid of ego and flash.

George Sluppick talks about:

  • Having support from his parents from an early age to pursue drums
  • Finding work outside of music during the pandemic
  • How he got into teaching music
  • His favorite sources for inspiration
  • Moving from Memphis to San Diego
  • His greatest musical influences
