644 – Dave Elitch: Getting Out of Your Own Way

Dave Elitch has carved quite the niche for himself as both a player and a teacher. A man whose made his name by playing with acts like The Mars Volta, Killer Be Killed, Miley Cyrus, M83, Justin Timberlake and Antemasque has equally become the go-to instructor if you need to get your technique in order. With a list of who’s who students, Dave has taken his approach to new heights with the launch of his Getting Out of Your Own Way course (and multiple revisions, including a December 2021 release) and diving deep into the world of the Alexander Method, mind-body connectivity and more.

Dave’s approach is different from a lot of teachers because he not only practices what he preaches but he tests his methods out on the road and in the studio for real-world, ongoing feedback. This allows both his playing and his teaching to evolve with him, giving his students the most up to date information in real time.

It is an interesting thing, that saying of like ‘those who can’t do, teach.’ I just think it’s complete bullshit, definitely for me.
