054: Carmen Intorre (Pat Martino Trio) “There are no shortcuts”

In this podcast I talked to drummer Carmen Intorre, who is currently part of the Pat Martino Trio.  Intorre, a Juilliard grad, has been an impressive player since he was a kid and has accumulated an amazing resume although he’s only in his early 30’s.  His credits include playing with and recording with luminaries such as George Benson, Wynton Marsalis, Monty Alexander, Joe Locke, Benny Golson, Ira Sullivan and Joey DeFrancesco – not to mention his full-time gig with Pat Martino.

“A man is a success if he gets up in the morning and goes to bed at night and in between does what he wants to do.” – Bob Dylan

In the interview you’ll hear Carmen Intorre talk about:

  • How he got started with drumming
  • His approach to playing jazz
  • Common misconceptions
  • Best ways to learn and practice Jazz
  • What you should be listening to
  • How he enjoys the “now”
  • much much more
