668 – Andrew Marsh: Find Your Tribe

Andrew Marsh is a gear head. Plain and simple. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg. I look at Andrew more like a scientist or historian, as he painstakingly digs into sounds, textures, tunings, recording practices and more to produce exactly what he’s looking for. From his Pro Music Studio in New Jersey, Andrew serves clients from all over the world but also spends significant time on the bandstand and has worked with artist like Chaka Khan, Brandford Marsalis, Esperanza Spalding, Roy Hargrove, Wyclef Jean, Billy Porter and also performed The Color Purple on Broadway, In 2019.

Whether it’s a gig, remote recording session or cutting live in the studio with other musicians, one thing is for sure: Andrew will show up over-prepared with the exact gear that’s needed for the job.

Andrew Marsh talks about:

  • His love for gear
  • How he got into playing drums
  • Going deep with experimenting and testing
  • His time at Berklee and how that shaped his career
  • His thoughts on finding your tribe/group of people to surround your self with
  • Much more
