Shane Theriot

427 – Shane Theriot (Hall and Oates / Live From Daryl’s House) A Drummer at Heart

I met Shane Theriot through drummer Brian Dunne after hearing that Shane is a listener of the DR podcast. See, Shane may be a guitar player, but he’s a drummer at heart, starting out on drums in his younger years. It’s only fitting that he’s had the opportunity to play with some of the greatest drummers of our generation, including Jim Keltner, Zigaboo Modeliste, Steve Jordan, Stanton Moore, and many more. His resume is staggering, boasting performances and recordings with the Neville Brothers, Willie Nelson, Dr. John, Jewel, Beyonce, Rickie Lee Jones, Hall and Oates, Boz Scaggs, Madeleine Peyroux, Larry Carlton, LeAnn Rimes, John Waite, Branford Marsalis, Johnny Rzeznick (Goo Goo Dolls) Leni Stern, Sam Moore, Nick Nolte, Gavin DeGraw, Aaron Neville, Ben Folds, Amos Lee, The SYN (with Chris Squire and Alan White from YES), Little Feat, Sammy Hagar, Allen Toussaint, Forest Whitaker and Harry Shearer as well as many others. With his current role as the Musical Director for Hall and Oates & Live from Daryl’s House, Shane is well equipped to share some invaluable insights into why drummers get hired, what a drummer can do to make it feel good and how the greatest musicians in the world operate.

Shane Theriot talks about:

  • Starting out as a drummer
  • His obsession with guitar playing at a young age
  • Memories from some of his favorite drummers
  • What makes a groove FEEL good
  • How he got the Hall and Oates gigs
  • How Live from Daryls’s house operates and the challenges that come along with it
  • What it’s like playing with icons like Hall and Oates
  • Much more
