176 – The brains behind your favorite drum instructional videos, Rob Wallis

Rob Wallis has been a staple in the percussion industry for more than 30 years. You’ve seen his work and he’s taught you a lot, I’m sure. What I’m not so sure about is whether you know him by name…or even by face. Rob is the man who brought you your favorite DCI, DCI/Warner Brothers and Hudson Music books, videos and DVDs as owner and executive producer of DCI and Hudson Music and most recently, Drum Guru App. . He was also the owner of the Drummer’s Collective in NYC for 30+ and is highly revered and respected among the greatest drummers in the world. Rob’s stories of working with greats, dealing with failure, adapting to new technologies and, in his words, “looking more forward than back” are a timeless look into a career and legacy that is still being written as Rob shows no signs of slowing down.

“It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change.” – Charles Darwin

Podcast Sponsors:

DW Drums: I’ve been playing DW for years…not only because they make high-quality, handcrafted drums but because they support and foster drumming initiatives all over the wold, much like this podcast. I’m thrilled to announce that DW has signed on to support Drummer’s Reosource for 2016! Be sure to check them out today and DWDrums.com.

Sabian Cymbals:

Like all HH cymbals, Vanguard models are fully hand hammered. But there are key differences. Vanguard cymbals employ pinpoint lathing, rather than traditional lathing. Also, Vanguard cymbals are thinner and lighter, with smaller bells and extended profiles overall. The result is clean, woody stick definition, providing exceptional articulation for such light cymbals. For more info, visit Sabian.com/vanguard
