165 – Rick Latham: Timeless Advice from a Master

In this podcast I talk to one of my biggest drumming influences, Rick Latham. Rick is not only an in-demand studio and live drummer but is also one of the best clinicians in the world and author of  Contemporary Drumset Technique and the timeless classic, Advanced Funk Studies (on of the “The 25 Greatest Drum Books Ever Published” – Modern Drummer). Rick has also released a DVD titled All About the Groove which also received critical acclaim.

I spent many years studying from Advanced Funk Studies so it was an absolute pleasure to have him on the podcast, and Rick didn’t disappoint, delivering a wealth of wisdom and practical advice for any drummer, not matter what level your are.

DW Drums: I’ve been playing DW for years…not only because they make high-quality, handcrafted drums but because they support and foster drumming initiatives all over the wold, much like this podcast. I’m thrilled to announce that DW has signed on to support Drummer’s Reosource for 2016! Be sure to check them out today and DWDrums.com.

Sabian XSR Cymbals: I could tell you all about Sabian’s B12 bronze and their trick-down technology, but let me tell you what’s really important:  The cymbals in the XSR line are professional-grade cymbals, priced to not break the bank. They sound amazing and won’t hurt you wallet when you buy them. For more info, visit Sabian.
