230 – Kenny Aronoff: The hardest hitting man in show business

He may be known as the hardest hitting man in show business, but he also may be the hardest working too. Constantly running from sessions to tours to clinics and back, Kenny Aronoff never rests. This non-stop work ethic has resulted in a career that started in 1980 with John Mellencamp (lasting 16 years) and has continued at a fervent pace (with artists too numerous to name) ever since. Somehow Kenny has manages to coninue to push his career further and further and shows no signs of slowing down.

Kenny Aronoff talks about:

  • How he got started playing drums
  • His relentless passion for playing
  • The constant strive to be better
  • Getting fired
  • Getting fired again
  • Failure
  • Skill vs talent
  • The results of hard work
  • Getting ripped off
  • Sex, Drums and Rock and Roll (his new book)
  • Advice for up and coming drummers

DW Drums: I’ve been playing DW for years…not only because they make high-quality, handcrafted drums but because they support and foster drumming initiatives all over the wold, much like this podcast. I’m thrilled to announce that DW has signed on to support Drummer’s Reosource for 2016! Be sure to check them out today and DWDrums.com.

Evans Drumheads: Let no circle box you in. Evans Level 360 gives the most consistent fit for your drums so you can get greater tonal range, effortless tuning, and the freedom to express yourself any way you want. Learn more at EvansDrumheads.com

Drums, ETC: Hands down my favorite drum shop, located in Lancaster, PA. The great thing about Drums, etc is you don’t have to be in Pennsylvania to shop with them. With their online store and order by phone (1-800-922-DRUM) they’re accessible nationwide. I cannot recommend these guys enough…they offer awesome, personalized service, a wide selection (and if they don’t have it, they can get it) and you can call them to answer any questions you may have.
