365 – Stephen Taylor (Stephen’s Drum Shed): How to chart your own course

Steven Taylor, owner of Stephen’s Drum Shed – an online drum instructional website, has a story that everyone can learn from. Starting to play professionally at 16 and in his late teens and early twenties, he cut his teeth playing nightly in clubs on Bourbon Street, in New Orleans, LA. After three years of gigging up to ten hour days, he relocated to pursue his education. He also has a Degree in Jazz Studies, was signed to Universal Republic Records then found himself in the rat-race of being a freelance musician. It was at that point, he decided to make a change, leave drumming for a few years and come back on his own terms.

Stephen Taylor talks about:

  • Getting started playing
  • The move to New Orleans
  • Signing with Universal Republic Records
  • Why he quit trying to pursue drumming as a career
  • Getting back into the music business – on his own terms
  • Advice for others getting started or who want to teach online lessons
  • Why “done” is better than “perfect” when you’re putting out content
  • His Drum Better Daily System
  • Much More
