265 – Rodney Howard: A journeyman of sorts…

Rodney Howard has resume that reads like a journeyman’s career in Major League Baseball. Like most journeymen in baseball, Howard moves around from gig to gig, but the difference is that Howard bounces around because he can do it all. He has the unique opportunity to play with a litany of acts due to his versatility and ability to adapt to any situation – whether that’s playing in stadiums with Avril Levine (a gig he’s had for 10+ years) or playing a singer/songwriter gig in New York City’s West Village.

Rodney Howard talks about:

  • Growing up in a “one stop sign” town
  • His start with music, playing Saxophone
  • The influence of older siblings and music influences
  • YouTube chops VS real life chops
  • Being a generalists or a specialist
  • Elton John on Soul Train
  • His time on the drum line
  • The best advice he ever got was from Dave Weckl
  • Understanding what makes pop music
  • Deconstructing styles and other players
  • You never know who’s listening
  • How he got the Avril Lavigne gig
  • Much more
