Elmo Lovano

292 – Elmo Lovano: Drummer and music director turned tech startup founder

Elmo Lovano goes after what he wants. From a young age he was touring the country as a drummer, became a music director for multiple bands and pseudo-retired from drumming around the ripe old age of…wait for it….30. Why? He has a bigger vision. Elmo is driven to change how musicians are viewed in the world. “They’re a line item on the expense sheet” Lovano says and my new company Jammcard (the exclusive, music professional’s network) was built to give more opportunities to musicians and others in the music business. Elmo’s vision is that if we as musicians band together (no pun intended) we can demand better touring conditions, more financial compensation and more security in a world full on freelance, work-for-hire musicians and music industry pros.

Elmo Lovano talks about:

  • Getting into drumming at a young age
  • Touring the country as a teenager
  • What he learned on the road as s teen
  • How he made his way through the music industry
  • The decision to stop touring to start Jammcard
  • The vision behind Jammcard
  • Tips for networking and connecting with others
  • Advice for others looking to get more work
  • Much more

Just heard this podcast, thanks again Nick. I don’t see how Jammcard would help the rest of us drummers. It’s just for pros? With all due respect, it sounds elitist, pompous and a social climbing project. I’m glad your podcast isn’t like that Nick. Love ya man!

It’s an app to help to help working pros connect with other working pros, and get better pay on tours and recording sessions. BUT, you don’t have to be a full-time plater to be a “pro”…
