DR Career Development
Over the past 18 years I’ve worked in every aspect of the music business. From starting and growing an original band to a touring band to booking agent, talent buyer, session drummer, sideman, solo artist and now the media and marketing side of the industry. Long story short, I’ve been around block a few times and can help you avoid the many mistakes I made, save you time and help guide you on your pursuit – whatever that may be. Whether you’re looking to go pro or just pick up a few more weekend gigs in town, I’m here to help.
Here’s how it works…
The first thing I do is have you fill out an assessment that helps me understand you, where you’re at, where you want to be and when you want to be there. It also helps me learn more about you – are you married, kids, where do you live, do you have a full time job, etc.
These are all critical questions that help me assess the best course of action for you.
I’ll help you create a roadmap so you always know whether you’re on track or not. I’ve helped numerous clients and businesses create roadmaps to narrow their focus and get down to what’s most important to them. Some areas of focus for past clients include:
- Overall career advice / structuring
- Growing your local band’s audience
- Landing more gigs / Connecting with bigger artists
- Networking and relationship building
- Transitioning into playing full-time
- Retirement from a full time job and transitioning into a part-time music career
- Social media promotion
- Growing your teaching business
- Balancing a full time job and a healthy playing schedule
- Much more
I will help you break down your goals and determine what needs to be done now, next week, next month and next year and get you on a solid path for achievement. We’ll get to the root of what’s important, why it’s important and more importantly, what ISN’T important.
My coaching style is a bit different because I want to help you succeed in all aspects of your life. If you are making $100,000 a year but are unhappy, I don’t consider that a success.
At the same time, if you’re playing 250 gigs a year but are so run down that you’re unhealthy, that isn’t good either.
I think you get the idea, so what I do is help you gain a little more control of the bigger picture to make sure you’re not making too many sacrifices to achieve your goals. Keep in mind, sacrifice is super important, but not at the risk of jeopardizing your overall happiness, health and quality of life.
For most of my clients, this is the biggest driving force behind their success. Knowing that you’re not going at this alone will keep you motivated to stay on track.
You can buy a book from the store or watch a few videos online to get yourself all pumped up and ready to rock, but having someone check in on you every week (me) and having to report to me – this is a game changer.
We’ll track your goals, progress, setbacks, what’s working, what’s not and make adjustments where necessary. This will allow me to keep my finger on the pulse of your success and make changes quickly.
This may scare you, but don’t worry, I won’t yell at you if you don’t hit your targets, but I WILL keep you accountable and push you to stay focused and to keep pushing.
A 30-minute Skype call with me every month to discuss your current situation, evaluate what to do next and work together to ensure you’re operating at your full potential.
Every week I’ll check in with you via email to ensure you’re staying focused, working on the goals at hand and offer up solutions to answer any questions that you may have.
This is your 24/7 resource to get quick questions answered by me and other group members, ask advice of others, find out what’s happening, etc. This is where you can chip in too, by answering other’s questions, get resources you need, and provide resources you have.
The DR private Facebook group is a family of like-minded people that are trying, just like you, to make their mark in the music world.
